Music Stars Camp

In this 4-week training camp, students will train to become better on-stage performers! They will have the opportunity to receive one-on-one coaching from MO voice teachers, collaborate with their peers to write scripts and devise a concise story, sing solos, duets, or trios, and more. As a result, students will have a better grasp on how to approach performing songs, participate in collaborative stagecraft, and flex their creative muscles in a rehearsal setting, culminating in a final performance. This class is suggested for students ages 9-13 who like to sing, act, and perform!

High School Classes Overview
In these 4-week training camp classes, students will approach all sides of musical theatre production through hands-on collaborative experience with their peers and industry professionals. They will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with MO teachers to explore the inner workings of musical production including script writing, song writing, instrumental orchestration, music and scene directing, and more. At the end of the second session, students will see their work culminate in a final performance displaying their accomplishments. These classes are suggested for students age 13-18 who are interested in musical theatre production and directing!
Script Writing & Development (Session I, Class I)
Dates (Saturdays): 5/30, 6/6/, 6/13, 6/20
Time: 12:00-2:00pm
Cost: $200
In this class, students will explore building original plot ideas and scenes for musical theatre. Students will explore how to come up with concepts, experiment with different genres, and shape clear, engaging stories. They will develop short scenes that emphasize clear storytelling, effective dialogue, compelling characters, and writing that is effective for the stage.
Vocal Writing & Lyricism (Session I, Class II)
Dates (Saturdays): 5/30, 6/6/, 6/13, 6/20
Time: 2:00-4:00pm
Cost: $200
In this class, students will dive into the craft of writing songs for musical theatre, focusing on lyric writing, storytelling, and phrasing. Students will learn about scansion, how songs function within a scene, and how to create a proper vocal score. This course will explore how to effectively write for different voice types, ensuring their work is both expressive and singable. Students will create original songs, including scenes developed in the Script Writing & Development course.
Orchestration & Arranging (Session II, Class I)
Dates (Saturdays): 7/11, 7/18, 7/25, 8/1
Time: 12:00-2:00pm
Cost: $200
In this course, students will learn how to shape the musical identity of a piece through orchestration and arranging. With a primary focus on writing for rhythm section and an introduction to other instrumental families, students will explore textrue, voice, and instrumental function. The course will also cover how to properly input, format, and prepare instrumental parts and scores. Students will gain hands-on experience arranging both pre-existing material and original songs created in the Vocal Writing & Lyricism course.
Collaboration & Direction (Session II, Class II)
Dates (Saturdays): 7/11, 7/18, 7/25, 8/1
Time: 2:00-4:00pm
Cost: $200
This course serves as the culmination of the program, bringing together work from all previous classes. Students will collaborate in small groups to refine scenes, songs, and arrangements, gain hands-on experience in directing and music directing. They will have the opportunity to see their work performed by professional musicians and vocalists, learning how to communicate their vision and adapt in a rehearsal setting. Emphasizing teamwork and creative leadership, this class helps students understand how to bring a production to life through collaboration.
Participation in other courses, while suggested, is not required to register for this course.
