MO Show: In Concert!
A New Works Competition for High School Writers, Composers, and Musicians!
The Musical Offering is excited to announce "MO Show: In Concert!", a celebration of new theatrical and musical works created by 8th grade and high school students. Students are invited to submit original work in any of the following three categories:

Script or Scene Excerpt

Stand-Alone Song

Instrumental Composition
All selected works will be performed in concert at Devonshire Theatre in January 2027. In addition, all winning works will receive a developmental workshop with performers and faculty from The Musical Offering. First Place Winner(s) in Each Category will receive a monetary prize of $350.
IMPORTANT DATES
Submissions Open: July 1, 2026 at 9:00am
Submissions Close: September 30, 2026 at 11:59pm
Notification of Results: October 5, 2026 at 9:00am
Workshop Period: November-December, 2026

Please read the submission criteria below before submitting your entry! Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
ELIGIBILITY

Open to students currently enrolled in grades 8–12.

Submissions must be the original work of the student(s). (No AI-generated work will be allowed)

Collaborative works are permitted. If selected, collaborators will share any prize awarded.

Students may submit multiple entries and may submit in multiple categories.
SUBMISSION CATEGORIES:
SCRIPT/SCENE EXCERPT
Submit:
-
A script or scene excerpt between 750–1,000 words
Additionally, include a brief statement (150-300 words) describing the context of the scene or script, your artistic vision, and any performance considerations. There is no maximum cast size; however, selected works may be performed with reduced casting and/or character doubling based on production needs. Any theatrical style is welcome. One-person plays are also permitted.
STAND-ALONE SONG
Submit:

Full song demo (composer recording, piano-vocal demo, or equivalent)
-
Lyric sheet
-
Piano-vocal score (optional, but encouraged)
Additionally, include a brief statement (150–300 words) describing the context of the song, your artistic vision, and any performance considerations. Songs may be written in any musical style.
INSTRUMENTAL COMPOSITION
Submit:

Original instrumental composition between 3–5 minutes

Audio file. Notation software renders (MuseScore, Dorico, Noteflight, Finale, Sibelius, etc.) are acceptable

Full score(s) (exported and formatted to the best of your ability)
FORMAT REQUIREMENTS
Please submit all materials digitally.
Accepted file types include:

PDF (scripts, lyrics, scores)

WAV, MP3, or M4A (audio)
Please be sure to include the names of all collaborators on your submission materials, as well as in your submission form.

Writers and composers retain all rights to their work.
