Heidi Joosten - Piano, Compositon
Heidi Joosten is an active musician in the Chicagoland area as well as the greater Midwest. Outside of teaching, Heidi gigs as a composer/pianist/harpist in the city, specializing in musical improv, audition coaching, cabaret writing/performing, and the combination of all of these with her work with Forte Chicago, an all-female comedic operatic improv ensemble. As a pianist, she serves as a liturgical pianist for DePaul University, collaborates on cabarets all over the city, and she music directs both sketch and improv comedy shows at the Annoyance theatre, iO, and Second City. Her first musical theatre cabaret, Cheaper than Therapy, premiered in August 2018, and her first solo piano album, Winter Meditations, was released on Bandcamp in December 2018.
As a multi-genre composer, Heidi's compositions have been performed in multiple venues throughout the city, Midwest, New York City, Canada, and Venice, Italy. Recent musical projects include The Bone Harp (composer) with Laura Stratford, Queer Eye: the Musical Parody (composer, music director) with Evan Mills, The IT Girl (music director), with Meadowbrook Theater [Rochester, MI], and The Who’s Moving On! international tour (music assistant, orchestral librarian). An actively commissioned composer, she is greatly looking forward to her upcoming collaborations that include brass quintet, collegiate choral, and high school wind ensemble pieces.
Heidi received her Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire where she studied under Dr. Ethan Wickman and Dr. Chiayu Hsu, and she received her Masters of Music in Composition from Roosevelt University, where she studied with Dr. Kyong Mee Choi and Dr. Stacy Garrop.
