Victoria Holland - Voice

Victoria HollandVictoria "The Philosopher"

Singing is a deeply personal experience.  When our mind and our body understand how breath makes sound in the human voice, we become artists capable of great expression and connection to our audience.  This is my passion, both as a performer and as a teacher.

Victoria "The Teacher"

I completed a Doctorate in Voice and Opera Performance at Northwestern University in 2004.  It was a fantastic experience, allowing me to pursue my passion for singing as well as strong interests in the areas of vocal pedagogy, musicology, and music theory. Ten years prior, I came to Northwestern to complete a Master in Voice degree, moving from Memphis, TN, the home of my undergraduate alma mater, Rhodes College.

Victoria "The Performer"

My first professional music experience came as junior in college, singing the soprano solos in Mozart's Requiem.  Subsequently, my work as an oratorio soloist has included the Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio, Janacek's Glagolitic Mass, Mozart's Requiem and Coronation Mass, Penderecki's Seven Gates of Jerusalem, Händel's Messiah and Judas Maccabaeus, Haydn's Creation, Bach's Mass in B-minor and Magnificat, the Fauré Requiem and Vivaldi's Gloria.

My favorite operatic roles include the Contessa in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (Aldeburgh Festival, England) and a recital version of the role of Ellen Orford in Britten's Peter Grimes (Lutkin Hall, Evanston).

I enjoy creating and participating in eclectic recital and chamber music programs, which have been well received in such venues as Chicago's Fourth Presbyterian Church Recital Series, Il Conservatorio di Parma in Italy, Chicago's Symphony Hall, and the Ravinia Festival's Martin Theater.

Outside the realm of classical music, I've performed with jazz pianist Chris White, the John Blegen Quartet, and with noted violinist James Sanders. I also perform regularly with The Opera Divas throughout the Chicago area.  For information on my upcoming performances, check out my website: www.victoriaholland.info.
