Tina Pappademos - Voice
Tina "The Music Teacher"
Music is a wonder. It's a miracle. It's one thing that brings so many people together in peace! Everyone who witnesses music being made enjoys it, too, whether they are participating as a musician or as a listener. Music causes responses in our bodies and our emotions and our minds whether we sing, play, listen or watch a performance.
Music is powerful in subtle and not-so-subtle ways! I hope that in studying voice or piano with me, utilizing the practicing techniques I offer, and keeping up a consistent practice through the session, a student will begin to experience all the energy that learning and practicing music gives them. It is the most enriching element of my own life, and in creating a relationship around music, I hope to show each student their own powerful potential in enriching every other aspect of life.
Tina "The Student of Music"
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Vocal Music Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana and did my student teaching at Glenbrook North High School under Judy Moe. I moved to Kansas City, Missouri to perform on the dinner theater circuit, and it was there that I first began studying opera with Joseph Fair through the Kansas City Community Opera. I have studied voice with Inci Bashar, Carmen Mehta, James Bailey, Nancy Henninger, and Amelia Fonti, and I continue to gain ever deeper understanding of the voice (and now piano!) through working so closely with my students and observing my professional colleagues as teachers and performers.
Tina "The Performer"
I became a member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus where I sang for six years. I currently sing with the Grant Park Symphony chorus and Bella Voce, Chicago's premier chamber choir. I am a proud member of the new Musical Offering Opera Divas group, which performs operatic concerts at schools, clubs and all kinds of venues. I have sung and danced with Light Opera Works (Evanston) and with many Chicagoland Gilbert and Sullivan companies. I was a founding member of Intimate Opera of Logan Square, where I sang the roles of Carmen, Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus,) and Suzuki (Madama Butterfly.) One of my favorite roles has to be the Witch from Hansel and Gretel, which I got to sing at Bowen Park Opera in Waukegan. I sing in recital and have appeared as soloist in oratorio with various orchestras including the Elgin Symphony.
I have been the alto soloist and section leader of the choir of Christ Church, Winnetka for 13 years and have sung with them as choir in residence of six different cathedrals in England. In 2003 I also toured the United States and the Netherlands with Beppie Blankert's contemporary dance company Danceconsert from Amsterdam in a performance piece titled The Odyssey, with music by Louis Andriessen. That same year I toured Russia as an alumna of the University of Illinois Concert Choir under the direction of Chet Alwes.
And for about 3 years I have performed with some wonderful colleagues on the last Sunday of every month at a Peruvian restaurant on the north side of Chicago, singing everything from folk songs in Spanish, to Patsy Cline, to West Side Story, to operatic arias and ensembles. I love when I get to accompany the other singers in that group!
Tina "The Jock"
