Susan Payne O'Brien - Voice


 

Amanda CrumleySusan Payne is equally at home on the opera and theater stage.  Ms. Payne began her dramatic training at an early age at the famed Piven Theatre Workshop where she studied under master teachers Joyce and Byrne Piven for over ten years, and performed in the Young Peoples Ensemble Company. 

She continued to hone her craft as a singing-actor for several years under the mentorship of world renowned performer Catherine Malfitano.  Ms. Payne’s opera credits include Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte, Violetta in La Traviata and Marenka in The Bartered Bride.  She is the winner of the City Opera of the Quad Cities Emerging Professionals Award as well as the Musicians Club of Women Farwell Award among others. 

Ms. Payne received her M.F.A from DePaul University and continued her studies at the International Institute of Vocal Arts and The Intermezzo Young Artists Training Program.  She is an avid recitalist with recent performances at The Music Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Cultural Center.  Ms. Payne is a senior faculty member at the Piven Theatre Workshop where she has taught musical theater, story theater and scene study for the past ten years.
